👉 WHAT IS A PREPOSITION ?
From analysis of the word " Preposition" it is found that combination of Pre+Position makes Preposition. A Preposition is a word that comes before a noun,pronoun, gerund, phrase and clause and makes relation to other words in a sentence. Other words may be the Noun, Verb or Adjective.
👉 WHAT ARE THE KINDS OF PREPOSITIONS ?
Basically Prepositions are of three kinds. They are Preposition of Time, Preposition of Place and Preposition of Direction.
Lets understand all the above kinds of Prepositions with examples-
ILLUSTRATION OF DIFFERENT KINDS OF PREPOSITIONS AS BELOW-
👉 PREPOSITION OF TIME- in, on, at, before, after.
Such prepositions always indicate the time when anything happens or takes place.
Examples-
On- He is supposed to come on Sunday.( Before day)
On- He comes home on Dusserah. ( Before Occasion)
Here ' on ' is a preposition as it links the verb- COME with SUNDAY.and tells the TIME of it.
Generally " ON " is used before DAY or OCCASION .
Example-
In- He was born in February 2010. (Before Month)
In- He passed the exam in 2022. ( Before Year )
Generally " IN" is used before MONTH or YEAR.in respect of indicating TIME.
Example-
At- The train arrives at 5.00pm. (Point of Time)
At- He left the place at night. ( Before ' night' )
Example-
Before- The train arrived at the station before time.
Before- Come before evening.
Example-
After- The train arrived at the station after scheduled time.
After- He arrived at home after Sun set.
👉PREPOSITION OF PLACE- Under, Above, In, On, At-
Such prepositions indicate PLACE or LOCATION of the Object written in the sentence.

BEFORE NOUN
1. The cat is sitting under the table.

The common prepositions that comes before a phrase are- to, of, about, at, before, after, by, behind, during, for, from, in, over, under and with.
